This Year's Missions

  • BackPack Program

The Backpack Ministry provides meals to local food-insecure children who need additional support to meet basic hunger needs over the weekend. Shelf-stable food items to support at least four meals are packed into individual food bags and delivered weekly to Bruce Drysdale, Hendersonville Elementary, and Hendersonville Middle Schools for children to place in their backpacks. Donations specified for Backpacks support food item purchases.

  • Brand New Day Philippines

This ministry provides street outreach, family and faith development, a day center with education scholarships and tutors, leadership development, and independent living training.
  • Cuba Ministry

Since 2015 FUMC has partnered with a small church in Las Tunas, Cuba called La Luz del Mundo (The Light of the World). Pastors Osmar and Yraida Baez lead this warm and welcoming congregation. Our team has visited them four times. Our trips primarily focus on relationship building and fellowship. We participate in worship with them and have brought them a water filtration system, video and computer equipment, and tools for use on the church's farm.

  • Feed the Kids

For 11 years FUMC has partnered with nine other churches to support our local "Feed the Kids Coalition" by providing volunteers and financial help. The sole purpose of this organization is to provide healthy suppers every Friday for kids at the Boys & Girls Club. Our team volunteers approximately every fifth Friday. Once again we are volunteering in person. Approximately 200+ children are served a healthy meal each week. Contributions to the Coalition are needed to purchase the groceries for these meals.

  • FUMC Youth Missions

The Youth of our church have a servant’s heart and participate in a Serve Sunday monthly. Serve Sunday is a night where our Youth take the time to participate in a local mission project in our community. These projects range from doing yard work to feeding the hungry.

  • Rooted in Faith Community Garden

Rooted in Faith Community Garden is a faith-based donation garden focused on building relationships, providing education, and growing fresh, organic produce for the food insecure of Henderson County. All donations go toward the purchase of seeds and plant starts for our donation produce, as well as supplies needed for the garden's upkeep. Thank you for helping us feed our community brothers and sisters.
  • Sowing Seeds

Sowing Seeds is sharing the Word of God all over the world. We collect books, Bibles, Bible study books, tapes and music. We are blessing pastors who do not have Bibles, schools and teachers who use our adult and children material, as well as new Christians who are hungry for the word of God.

  • Sew Much Love

The mission of Sew Much Love, a small group which uses donated cotton fabric and trims to make dresses and pants for children in far-away villages. These special items of clothing are sent to Little Dresses for Africa, a non-profit Christian organization which distributes them throughout the world but primarily in Africa through missionaries and aid workers as gifts for building relationships in the villages. The original goal for Little Dresses for Africa was to build a sense of hope and worth in little girls who are not valued in their culture. Not wanting to leave out the little boys, we also sew “britches” for the boys. After relationships are established Little Dresses for Africa works with the people in the village to provide clean water, primary education and community buildings.

  • United Methodist Committee on Relief

The Committee on Relief collects donations to be designated specifically towards disaster relief efforts. UMCOR comes alongside those who suffer from natural or human-caused disasters – famine, hurricane, war, flood, fire or other events—to alleviate suffering and serve as a source of help and hope for the vulnerable.
  • Zoe Empowers

Through ZOE’s Empowerment program ( www.zoeempowers.org) we partner with orphaned children in Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi and Liberia for three years so that they become sustainably self-sufficient within a village-based group context. Through training, small grants and support by local leaders, the children learn skills, grow in faith and develop a sense of family as they become economically independent. Currently, over 1700 children have been empowered through FUMC support. Your gifts matter!
