Weekday school

Dear Weekday Families,

As you know we have been searching to find the very best way to handle the Covid 19 virus outbreak for the safety of your whole families.  The United Methodist Bishop of Western NC as well as our Church Administrator along with the Church Board and the Weekday School Administration have decided to take the following cautious measure.

FUMC Weekday Child Development Ministry is Now Enrolling for the 2020-21 School Year!

For over 60 years, The Weekday School of First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville has been touching the lives of children in Henderson County. Our church believes that each child is a child of God and should have every opportunity to develop spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically to the fullest potential. It is our purpose to provide that opportunity for development through safe, nurturing care for the children and families of The Weekday School.

In 2014, we earned a North Carolina license as a religious sponsored childcare provider. This license allows to better serve the families in our care by offering extending hours beyond our morning schedule.

In order to meet the growing needs of our Weekday School families for a flexible and extended schedule, with a five day a week program. Our Early Birds program begins each day at 8 a.m. and is especially useful to parents who have early morning commitments. Lunch Bunch (not available at this time) takes place immediately after school each day and ends at 1:30 pm. Children must bring a lunch from home. Please contact the office at 692-6673 about cost information for these two programs.

More information (tuitions, schedules, etc.) about our Weekday School can be found in our 2020-2021 Parent Handbook. The 2020-2021 Registration Form and required Medical Form are also now available online in pdf format. We must have both forms accompanied by the $110 registration fee and a copy of your child's immunization record in order for your child to attend our program. Our interim  school director, Erin Holbert, would love to speak with you about The Weekday School. We would also love to show you around our preschool. If you would like more information about the school or information on available preschool scholarships, please email Erin Holbert or call her at 828.692.6673.

Our Beliefs and Purpose

"See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God." 1 John 3:1

Our church believes that each child is a child of God and should have every opportunity to develop spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically to the fullest potential. It is our purpose to provide that opportunity for development through safe, nurturing care for the children and families of Weekday Child Development Ministries. We strongly believe in ongoing communication between our staff and families. We encourage visits, questions, suggestions, and participation in center activities. We will keep you informed through daily direct communication, newsletters, and bulletins.

Teacher Qualifications & Curriculum

The Weekday Preschool Ministry strives to provide love, comfort and encouragement within a framework of planned activities designed to stimulate development. We are committed to ensuring that our program is based on current knowledge of child development and early childhood education. Lead teachers in our Threes and Fours programs are required to have college-level training in Early Childhood or a related field. Ten hours of approved continuing education (including CPR and First Aid) is required of all staff every year. Our curriculum integrates developmentally appropriate activities with religious development and is designed to help our teachers make faith connections. We are constantly striving to attain new research and new methods, so the curriculum presented may represent different approaches. Curriculum is planned and basic outlines are give to parents through monthly calendars and periodic newsletters.

We are excited to announce that in the 2019-20 school year, we will begin using the Orange curriculum for preschoolers. The entire curriculum is constructed to meet your preschooler where they are cognitively, spiritually, physically, emotionally and socially. Through age appropriate activities, preschoolers are building their spiritual foundation so that by the time they graduate to kindergarten they know these three basic truths.

Enrichment Offerings

Chapel time with our Senior Pastor is one of the most important things that we offer our children. Many children in our community have no church affiliation, and they will not be hearing about Jesus, as we know, in public school. This may be our only opportunity to minister to these young families.

We also offer Music Time, Creative Movement, and Soccer Shots.
